Quebrada Blanca (QB2) Phase 2 Plant (Chile)

 (Under Construction)

About

As a result of the Quebrada Blanca copper mine expansion, a new desalination plant was needed to supply water to the additional volumes of copper and molybdenum produced. The new desalination plant is the second-largest seawater desalination plant in Chile. Its design is in accordance with Chile’s stringent environmental requirements and safety regulations. Desalinated water from the Pacific Ocean is piped to the mine 145km to the east.

“IDE’s experience in South America and worldwide, and their commitment to high environmental standards were key factors in their selection for the QB2 project,”

Karl Hroza, Project Director, QB2, Teck
