IDE Teams Up with Omis Water and EcoOcean to Clean Hadera Coastline Following Marine Oil Spill

Published: 21/03/21

In cooperation with EcoOcean volunteers, about 40 IDE employees from marketing, engineering, purchasing, finance and others, joined Omis Water employees to clear the beaches of clumps of tar and pollution.

In February 2021, a recent heavy storm with unusually high ocean waves washed hundreds of tons of tar across a 160 kilometer stretch of Israel’s shoreline, from Rosh Hanikra to Ashkelon, in the aftermath of an oil tanker spill. The Israel Nature and Parks Authority has deemed the pollution the worst natural disaster in years, but through the work of volunteers and government support, the cleanup process is underway to restore the coastline’s ecosystem and safeguard marine life from endangerment.

In cooperation with EcoOcean volunteers, about 40 IDE employees from marketing, engineering, purchasing, finance and others, joined Omis Water employees to clear the beaches of clumps of tar and pollution. Though the teams tirelessly filled trash bags with debris, it is predicted that the full cleanup effort will take months to years.

“At IDE, we appreciate and value our sea, the water and keeping our environment and surroundings clean,” said Lihy Teuerstein, Deputy CEO, IDE Assets. “I am extremely proud of, and happy to be part of the group of IDE employees who volunteered to help with this important initiative and who share a passion for our environment and community.”
